So, I found out where my new missionary is from. He is from Cambodia!
I have never heard of a missionary coming from Cambodia, and only one going to Cambodia. Last week was a very special one, which included trainers meeting, and General Conference.
Trainers meeting is the meeting where President and the Assistants give special instruction to the missionaries who will be training, like myself. In the morning we were trained on how to use the "12 weeks" program, which is kind of like a crash course for missionary work. We were upstairs in the gym eating lunch when one of the office missionaries came running in announcing "They're here! They're here!"
All of the trainers were rushed off to a hallway so the new missionaries wouldn't see us, and we had another training after lunch.
The Assistants came in after the new missionaries arrived and they said "oh they're so cute" kind of like a 12 year old girl to a new litter of puppies. Since my companion is not coming for another week or so, I had to miss the part where all the new missionaries meet their trainers. I still remember that first meeting of mine like it was yesterday. We start our singing "Called to Serve" and half way through the trainers walk in singing it way louder and carrying the mission banner. Maybe sometime in the future I will get to be in this again. I did get to know who my companion is before everyone else though. In a few weeks I will go back to Hyde Park for a meeting with all the new missionaries.
General Conference weekend is always a special one. I still can't believe it's been six months since I was sitting in the Chelmsford chapel watching conference for my first time as a missionary, and now a year already since I was sitting in the conference centre watching it for myself. Something that always impresses me is the music from General Conference. They seemed to pick all my favourite hymns like "Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing", "Redeemer of Israel", and so on.
General Conference is a great opportunity to get answers to questions.
This week will be a busy one. Cheers!
