Hello everyone!
This week has gone fast and this transfer even faster! I can't believe we are in the last week of the transfer now. I thought of another analogy with cars this time, we went to institute on Thursday with Fiona and Louise, and we went with them to a baptism in Milton Keynes ward. Good week!
As I have said in previous times, I seem to have a creative side in explaining Gospel topics with real-world situations. We were teaching our investigator named Keerthy, who thinks a lot like me. He thinks very logically because he also has an engineering mind, so I thought a mechanical analogy might work for him. This is what I explained: our spiritual lives are like owning a car. There are certain things we check (or should check) daily on the car like making sure the lights are working, nothing puncturing the tires, etc... There are some things we do more periodically like oil changes, and more major fixes at bigger intervals like new tires, new battery, maybe a new water pump or heater core. Spiritually, we are the same. There are things we do daily (like reading the scriptures and praying), things we do at bigger intervals (like going to church) and more major things like baptism. When you maintain your car properly, it operates as efficiently as it can. When we maintain ourselves spiritually, we allow God to help us operate at our maximum spiritual efficiency, and reach our potential. If you don't maintain the car it will still work, but will not work at maximum efficiency and will eventually show signs of wear faster. I even impressed myself for coming up with this on the spot.
Not often do we get to go to Institute as missionaries, but because Fiona and Louise wanted to go on Thursday we went with them. Institute is classes that are offered to help us understand the scriptures and the lessons taught within them. I took institute as part of my regular class schedule at BYU, but here it is done on a Thursday night every week. The lesson we had was on obedience and patterns of obedience in the Book of Mormon. It was a good reminder for me behind the reasons to be obedient. Duty, fear, respect, etc... can be reasons, but the most important reason should be love.
Saturday had two baptisms in the zone: Henry in Bedford and Rubina in Milton Keynes. We went to Rubina's baptism with Fiona and Louise because it is closer to Northampton. They both loved it. There is always something so special about a baptismal service and I could tell it brought back lots of good memories for Louise and gave Fiona a glimpse into the future for herself. Afterwards we all went to Five Guys and talked about the baptism.
Upcoming this week we have interviews with President Stevens on Wednesday, and we are moving flats on Friday! Our flat was finally sold and we are moving flats to one a little closer to town. Next week is transfers to p-day is moved to Tuesday.
Cheers!
